Zoo Penguins Get Some New Kicks

Vet Orders Booties for Penguins at the Saginaw Children’s Zoo

Because we ALL need this cuteness in our lives!

Like our new kicks?
A couple of the penguins have sensitive feet, so Dr. Cerveny ordered them some neoprene booties to keep their feet healthy during the winter months. We think they look fabulous. They seem to think so, too! What do you think?

The Saginaw Children’s Zoo says that after Dr. Cerveny noticed some penguins with sensitive feet, some neoprene booties were ordered to keep their feet healthy.

Shaped like the penguins own webbed feet, and even coming with a left and a right, the booties will help the penguins during the winter months.

You learn something new every day, and today, we learned that penguins can have sensitive feet.

Of course, I thought, "Huh? HOW? They're arctic birds!" However, from my Google research, penguins can contract a condition called bumblefoot, which is when they get bruises on their feet for standing too long. And yes, they can also get frostbite on their feet in places like the Arctic.

Dr. Cerveny is a veterinarian at the Saginaw Children's Zoo. Knowing that the zoo's penguins have sensitive tootsies, she ordered some neoprene boots for the adorable birds, and the boots are just as cute as they are.

This is the first time that the birds at the Saginaw Children's Zoo have received footwear, but it's not a new concept - the penguins at the world-famous Shedd Aquarium in Chicago received some custom-made booties back in 2013 and made the world news because of it.

I mean, if you don't think this is the cutest thing you've seen all week, I can no longer help you with your happiness.
