Our Pets and Their Health: Preventing Cancer

As each of you know, I see patients every day at Holistic Veterinary Healing. Unfortunately, I see at least 2 cancer patients a week. The cancer rate in our pets has risen to about 65-75%. Our Pets and Their Health: Preventing Cancer. There are many reasons for this rampant increase in the rate of cancer and chronic disease in our pets. Our world is extremely toxic from Monsanto’s glyphosate “Roundup” and from all the negativity around us. We cannot control the toxins except by each of us not using them. The Dalai Lama has made a call to the young people of the world with his book “A Call for Revolution: A Vision for the Future” to help balance out the world’s negativity.

Two other big factors that directly affect our pet’s health is over-vaccination with multivalent vaccines and feeding our pets processed pet grade food instead of human grade food. We can control these factors by changing our pet’s nutritional and health habits. Once the core vaccines are completed, I recommend that instead of routinely getting our pets vaccinated for Distemper and Parvo every 1 or 3 years, we perform a titer test to check their antibody levels to ascertain your pet’s protective level for Distemper and Parvo from when they were previously vaccinated. That way, your pet will only be vaccinated when the titer is below the protective level. You should limit your pet’s vaccines based on their risk of exposure. The Lyme vaccine is only 50-60% effective and has caused serious autoimmune disease so I do not advise the use of this vaccine. The Lepto vaccine only has two bacterins and the disease is from 6 bacterins so, I question its effectiveness. Also, it is mostly transmitted by rat and rodent urine found in puddles in city alleyways and by cow urine in the country, not by suburban wildlife. I rarely see the disease in suburban dogs even though I will test for it in sick animals. It is another vaccine I choose to avoid due to the limited risk of exposure in my suburban patients. Bordetella is only needed if a boarding kennel, daycare, or groomer requires it for your pet.

To educate yourselves about feeding your pets, you may want to watch the video “Pet Fooled” on either Netflix or YouTube. This video explains that dry pet food is processed with high heat which causes two carcinogens to form in the food. The “Truth About Pet Cancer” video series analyzed dry foods (both with and without grain) and found them all to be 50-60% carbohydrates. All this sugar is yet another carcinogen for cats and dogs. In other words, the dry processed pet food that many of us feed our pets is “cancer in a bag.” The safe alternatives to feeding dry processed food is to start feeding them raw, freeze-dried, dehydrated, canned, or home cooked foods.

I recommend the following foods:

You can get freeze dried, dehydrated, and canned foods for your dog or cat on www.Chewy.com or locally at the Loyal Companion store on E. Gude Drive in Rockville. Holistic Veterinary Healing sells Answers Pet Food frozen product line, Stella & Chewy’s freeze dried, and Weruva canned food for your dogs and/or cats. Another excellent addition to your pet’s diet is Answer’s Raw Goats milk, also fermented, not pasteurized. Raw goat’s milk has 200 species of probiotics, 60 living enzymes, Conjugated Linoleic Acid (a cancer-fighting fat), and immunoglobulins. Raw milk is also a natural antihistamine for allergies. Used in addition to any of the above protein sources, raw goat’s milk makes any diet nutritionally complete. Just add it to their meal and you’ll have a lot less to worry about.

I hope this information has been of benefit to you.

Blessings,

Dr. Pema
