VET TECH & CERTIFIED IN CANINE REHAB: Renee DeSimone, CVT, CCRA

SPECIAL INTEREST IN ORTHOPEDIC & NEUROLOGIC ISSUES IN PETS

I offer consultation for pet parents of dogs or cats with weakness or generalized stiffness, lameness issues, post-op surgical pets, and those with osteoarthritis and pain related to injury or disease. I have worked with pets with spinal cord injuries and paralysis as well as pets that have had strokes and cannot walk well.  I will be happy to work with you and your veterinary team to provide solutions, suggestions, and coaching to help your pet recover or feel and move better.  I provide consults for Pet Parents:

  • To help keep your pet as mobile and comfortable as possible.
  • To address the specific needs of pets with orthopedic or neurologic issues.
  • To educate and clarify activity restrictions and exercises, especially following surgery or neurological injury.
I have worked in specialty veterinary hospitals for more than 20 years and have extensive experience in surgery and advanced anesthesia, neurology, ophthalmology, emergency and critical care and also has experience in internal medicine, cardiology, radiology, dermatology, oncology and alternative medicine (pain management, HBOT and acupuncture), and rehabilitation. My goal is to keep animals moving comfortably as long as they can, aid in their movement and decrease pain while increasing range of motion. I enjoy working with animals of every age and assisting pets and their guardians with the proper education to keep them moving. Through virtual consultation, I can help you help your pet, all without you having to leave home.

If contacting me for help with a pet following injury or illness, I will need the following information before the consult

  • Pet's name, breed, weight, age;
  • Pet's injury or issue;
  • When did injury or issue occur;
  • In what sport or activity is the pet involved;
  • Why are you seeking a consult;
  • Veterinary professional who is currently treating the pet including clinic name, phone, e-mail.

Once you purchase the consult, you will be provided with instructions.

Renee taught radiology and surgery/anesthesia at Mount Ida College and has instituted technician internship programs in several practices.  In 2016, she completed training in Canine Rehabilitation through the Canine Rehabilitation Institute and earned the credentials of Certified Canine Rehabilitation Assistant. Since then, she has received advanced training in working with neurologic and orthopedic patients.  Renee continues to work in a veterinary hospital as lead surgical referral technician where she works to keep pets mobile and pain-free.

In June 2019, Renee started Iron Paws Therapeutic Massage  to help animals by using techniques that minimize the occurrence of the common injuries.  Her goals are to combine massage therapies with strengthening and conditioning to keep animals moving well with less pain and for as long as possible.

“Renee is absolutely amazing! We adopted Jenny 3 weeks ago and she has had 4 appointments already. Renee comes to the house and has made so much progress in the short time. Her love for animals shows in her work and she’s awesome with our other dog who just watches. If your dog needs physical therapy, I highly recommend her." Patty Legrow

“The convenience of having someone come to our house for our dog’s physical therapy is awesome! We have been working with Renée for a few weeks now to help Toro recover from his second knee surgery. He fell in love with her the first time they met!! He gets so excited when he sees her pulling in the driveway! I can see he trusts her 100% which is very important to me. It makes me very happy to know he is getting stronger and building confidence. The massage sessions are his favorite!! Toro definitely gives Iron Paws Therapeutic Massage 2 paws up!” Lisa Guertin

"Renee is extremely knowledgeable, compassionate and always striving to provide the best care for your pets. I recommend her 100% if you’re seeking superior treatment for your fur babies. " Sarah Patnode

"We would never go a week without Stanley having his laser treatment and massage. We have full confidence and trust putting Stanley's care on Renee's hands." Jeanne and Curt Dunphy

"I met Renee while trying to find a pet sitter for my 10 year-old Great Dane. She offered to give massages to my old boy. He loved them. I believe that her weekly massages prolonged his ability to stand and walk on his own. He would sleep for a day or so and then become a spry little puppy for several more days. One massage, she found a tender spot on him. He told her to back off with snarls. She let him get comfortable and then talked him through what she was going to do to him. At the end, he gave her kisses and apologies. I'll always appreciate what she did for my Dane." Joyce Rice
